The Assistant Controller is responsible for maintaining the general ledger while managing the monthly closeout schedule through producing accurate and timely financial statements.  This position is responsible for implementing and maintaining internal controls to protect company assets and ensuring compliance with US GAAP.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manages the activities of the Accounting Department while working with senior management.
  • Supervise accounting staff, set their priorities and goals while ensuring they produce accurate and timely work.
  • Manage smooth and timely month end closing
  • Assist Controller in overseeing cash and treasury functions
  • Review analysis and appropriate journal entries
  • Ensure proper cutoff and accounting for physical inventory
  • Monthly Accrual journal entries… (analysis and estimates)
  • Review and Post journal entries into Great Plains
  • Prepare and analyze financial statements (Management Reporter) for accuracy and reasonableness
  • General Ledger account analysis and balance sheet reconciliation; ensuring timely completion
  • Prepare, review, and submit month end reports
  • Prepare and distribute monthly financial reports to department managers
  • Prepare financial reporting packages for management to include Income Statement, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow Statement
  • Develop procedures to streamline accounting processes
  • Oversee Cash Flow projections
  • Serve as a liaison between accounting and operations
  • Serves as primary liaison person with external auditors during their annual review
  • Special Projects as requested
  • Eliminate duplicate processes and unnecessary reports
  • Any other duty as assigned


To be able to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required. 

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Accounting
  • CPA preferred but not required
  • Seven years of full-time professional accounting experience.  Must have at least
  • 5 years in supervisory capacity.

Skills Needed:

  • Excellent ability to analyze, interpret and make decisions based on results
  • Knowledge and skill in supervisory practices and principles
  • High level of Accounting knowledge including GAAP
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Skill in performing detailed and complex numerical computations and reports
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Excellent knowledge of computer skills, including accounting software, database software, Excel and Word
  • Proper attendance is required
  • Prior experience with Great Plains is preferred
  • Prior experience with SOC compliance is preferred

Work Environment / Physical Demands:

This position is in a typical office environment that requires prolonged sitting in front of a computer.  This position requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment including operation of standard phone, fax machine, and copier.
